In 2000, $67 billion was spent on about 32,500 noncompetitive contracts. In 2003, $107 billion was spent on 43,000 noncompetitive contracts. Is this just inflation? Probably not.

Bill Nevins, a teacher at Rio Rancho High School, was fired after a girl in his poetry class read an anti-war poem on the school's closed-circuit television system. The principal of the school, as well as the school's military liaison, called the girl "un-American" and tried to force her mother to destroy her poetry, just because she expressed a view that was contrary to theirs.
